Charter School Update

Walden University President, Dr. Paula Peinovich, resigned unexpectedly a couple weeks ago and the Walden governing board declined to sponsor any schools this year. This left us in a bit of a bind, but we are not done by any means. June 6th Bev Moon and I travel to Minneapolis for a free review of our charter application by the Minnesota Association of Charter Schools. On the 7th I'll be meeting with the board of the Audubon Center in Sandstone. They have a lot of experience with sponsorship and have an excellent reputation in the charter school community.

You may recall that we considered pursuing sponsorship with Audubon back in November/December but decided to respond to Walden's request instead. Audubon required some curriculum components we thought might be too onerous for us to include along with pre-K literacy. Bob Wedl of the Sponsor Assistance Network has since negotiated a compromise with the Audubon board so that if accepted for sponsorship we won't have to make significant changes to our application.

On another front-we have an agreement with Leech Lake Head Start to have a program at Eagleview for the '07-'08 school year. More on that in future posts.
