Eagleview Library Awarded $200 From Operation Round Up

The North Itasca Electric Cooperative's Operation Round Up awarded $200 to the Eagleview Community Library to be used toward purchasing a bar code scanner and software to create a computerized catalog system. The Operation Round Up board meets twice a year to consider requests from organizations in the co-op's service area. This is the second time the Eagleview Community Foundation has benefitted from the generosity of co-op customers who have their bills rounded up to the next dollar. In 2006 the Round Up Board contributed $500 toward the purchase of new chairs at the Community Technology Center. Many thanks for their continued support!

Anonymous Donors Issue Fundraising Challenge

Many regular readers of this blog know that the Foundation has been negotiating informally with ISD 318 to acquire the Eagleview building. Even if the school board follows through with their verbal commitment to sell the building to the ECF for a token amount, say $1, there will still be legal expenses and other costs associated with just taking over the building-much less renovating it.

Thanks to two donors, who wish to remain anonymous, we have a chance to jump start our fundraising efforts with matching funds. Our generous friends will match every dollar we raise in donations toward the building fund between October 20 and December 31, up to $1,500. That means if we raise $1,500 designated for the building, we'll really have $3,000. Regular dues and funds designated for the CTC/Library don't count, and grants don't count. We need donations from people just like you!

As of today we have $15 in individual donations toward the Building Fund plus $15 in matching funds, for a total of $30.

New Board Members Join Eagleview Community Foundation

Julie Hemphill and Bev Robertson, both of Max, joined the Eagleview Board last night at our first annual membership meeting. Welcome! Look for more news later about officers and standing committees.

The hottest topic on last night's agenda was the Boys and Girls Club. The Minnesota After School Learning Program Planning Group, consisting of representatives from the Foundation, City, Local Indian Council and Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe Youth Division have been negotiating with Boys and Girls Club of the Leech Lake Area to bring a unit to Eagleview. We are very close to an agreement that would help leverage our two year grant from the Minnesota Department of Education into a permanent program at Eagleview for youths aged 6-18, with potential for growth to include pre-school and the 18-21 year olds.Click here to go the Boys and Girls Club site.
