Eagleview and North Schools, Potential Partners

We've added a new link to ISD 317, Deer River. (See list at right). Toni met with Superintendent Matt Grose and Indian Ed. Coordinator Gerald White last week and we found a lot of common interests with their North School. With just 18 miles separating North and Eagleview, the two schools are closer to each other than either school is to its parent school district.

Attend the November 2nd Charter School Budget Meeting (6-10PM at Eagleview) to hear about possible partnership opportunities and the proposed charter budget. We will meet in the Music Room.

ECF Awarded $500 from Operation Round Up

The North Itasca Electric Cooperative's Operation Round Up board has awarded $500 to the Eagleview Community Foundation for use in the Community Technology Center. We had requested $1,000, but this award will allow us to buy ergonomic computer chairs suitable for student and adult use. Many thanks to Operation Round Up!

Library Committee Moves Quickly

If you saw Sheryl Barnes this week you could see she was a woman with a mission, and a deadline. Sheryl and her husband Lin are longtime seasonal residents and she was working hard to get all her Eagleview Community Library tasks done before leaving today to visit grandchildren, then pressing on to Colorado. In a very short time Sheryl was able to line up donations from Stokes printing for book cards and bookmarks and Home Depot for shelving lumber. She even charmed a donation of labor out of her favorite carpenter for building bookcases, (name withheld to protect him from pleas for more free work.) Check back in late May when we'll have a blog entry posted with pictures.

The rest of the library committee hasn't been sitting still either. They've solicited books and cash donations, written press releases, contacted other small community libraries for advice and assistance, and combed the Internet for library grants opportunities. Committee Chair Connie Vessy will make a full report of their exciting progress at the November 2nd ECF meeting. We'll get our usual monthly reports done early (6:00-6:30), then spend the rest of the evening working on a charter school budget.

Eagleview Community Foundation on the Road

The word about ECF is getting out and people have many questions, and a few misconceptions about Eagleview School. The misconceptions are particularly frustrating as we fight the "You're only going to be open one more year" attitude. Folks have been saying that for twenty years.

Now we have a chance to get the straight story out! The Foundation will be making community presentations to:

Women of the Woods (WOW) at the Sand Lake Town Hall on Monday, November 6 at 10:00AM
and
Evergreen Seniors at Barney's on Tuesday, November 14, at Noon.

Toni will also be traveling to Brainerd on Wednesday, November 1, for a 21st Century Learning Center grant workshop. If you'd like to join her for the three hour morning session, and that lovely drive to Brainerd, drop a line to ToniDW@aol.com

Library Committee Formed

Expansion of the Eagleview Library to serve children and adults year-round has been a vision for Eagleview Community Foundation members since before there was a foundation. Working toward that goal was on the backburner though as we got organized and focused on school improvements and the charter process.

It was with great excitement then that we welcomed new members to the foundation last night and created a new Library Committee. Connie Vessy has signed on to lead the group, making her both a new member and a much needed volunteer.

Many thanks to Connie for stepping up, and to our new members who braved the horrible weather to attend the meeting:

Lori Dowling and Pat Richards-District 1 County Commissioner Candidates
Cliff Schroeder-ISD 318 School Board Member
Connie Vessy-Library Committee Chair!
Sheryl and Linley Barns-seasonal residents who care about education.
Will and Elinor Wright-Elinor has some great stories to share about all the little one room schools that operated in the Eagleview area.

District 1 Candidates to Attend October Meeting, Tomorrow!!

Pat Richards and Lori Dowling, the two survivors in the 8-way Itasca County District 1 primary race, plan to attend the October 12th ECF meeting which will begin at 6:30 in the cafeteria. The candidates anticipate being a bit late because they plan to attend the forestry forum at Itasca Community College with Congressman Oberstar. Both Dowling and Richards have expressed great interest in Eagleview's future.

Due on November 17th, the proposal will be considered at Northland's January board meeting with a decision announced by mid-February.
